President's Message
Dear United Soccer Families,
Soccer 2012 is gearing up. 2011 was a great season for soccer at United. Our teams have seen amazing growth in talent and season results. Those results are individual and team advancement, driven by a philosophy of player development.
Thanks to all of you who through patience, have seen the results of your players from season to season. Not to sit on our laurels, we will continue to improve the program, extend our reach as far as we can to bring kids who want competitive soccer and, grow a 2012 OOTW tournament that we are all proud of.
Speaking of tournament, we had many out-of-area guest teams for the 2011 OOTW. We wan to grow more awareness, sponsorships and overall success for 2012 under the leadership of Randy Campbell as director and Mark Beecher as volunteer coordinator. To all of you who helped with the 2011 tournament, we are proud to say it was a success and that many kids in this community win because they have more access to the program through scholarships.
The idea of collecting for attendance at the 2011 tournament was an interesting decision. Many people thought it was $5 a day and that they had to pay again the next day. Others, when learning the purpose - to help with scholarships to the program, gave with a smile. There were coaches from visiting teams and referees who paid the fee to support our program when they didn't have to! A visiting grandmother had a strong opinion on giving $5 until she was told of how money collected would be used. She smiled, gave the $5 and said thank you!
As a completely voluntary organization, one of the most difficult decisions to make is how to raise money. Volunteering helps. But when it's time to pay bills, it's the cash in the bank that's needed. If there is any way you can help us grow our cash reserve, please do so. We are a non-profit and any contribution you make is tax-deductible.
Thank you,
Mike James
