FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
  1. What is Oshkosh United?
  2. Oshkosh United is a select soccer club for boys and girls ages U-11 to U-19. United teams play against other select teams from area towns and participate in a choice of several summer soccer tournaments.

  3. How does Oshkosh United and "select" soccer differ from recreational soccer clubs?

At the core of Oshkosh United is the belief that individuals grow through competition. By playing with and against teams with similar philosophies and talent we hope to develop players within our club to their full potential.

While we are competitive, this does not mean that winning is empasized over everthing else, actually, just the opposite is true. Oshkosh United is dedicated to developing individuals to their full potential. Training involves a multitude of activities that emphasize individual and team skills. We feel a mastery of the basic skills of dribbling, receiving, passing, shooting and defending are the foundation from which players are able to reach their full potential. We employ small-sided games, such as two against two, to allow players more opportunities to interact with the ball and make decisions that affect the immediate outcome of the game.  Players play in a number of positions over the course of the year to truly develop as well-rounded soccer players.

At Oshkosh United our soccer players learn to win graciously, lose with dignity, but above all, to relish the challenges and opportunities afforded by competition

  4. Does Oshkosh United offer any opportunities for U6, U8 and U10 players?

Yes. In 2006 Oshkosh United began a U6 developmental league that ran six weeks during the fall. In 2007 this was expanded to include a U8 league and plans are on the way to offer a full U6, U8, and U10 league in the summer of 2008. The developmental league is open to all interested players and does not involve a tryout process. For more information, check out our youth development portion of the website.

  5. How much does it cost to play for Oshosh United?

For the 2007/2008 season the player fee is $325. This does not include a uniform kit, which typically run for $75.

This cost covers state fees, such as insurance, league fees, referee fees and coach compensation.

  6. Are there hidden fees?

While Oshkosh United tries to be up-front with all fee there are additional costs that come with competitive soccer. Perhaps the biggest cost not covered in the player fee is the cost of transportation. Games can be held as far away as Green Bay or Milwaukee. Many families carpool to reduce their fuel consumption to games or practices.

Another cost sometimes incurred is from families staying overnight at hotels when traveling to tournaments. While most tournaments that United participates in are within the Fox Valley, some teams travel farther, such as Milwaukee or Madison. Although we cannot guarantee game times, we usually request later games to allow players who do not spend the night ample time to drive from Oshkosh to their destination.

  7. What is a typical Oshokosh United schedule?

Teams typically begin practicing in April as soon as it is nice enough to play outside. Practices are held once or twice a week prior to the start of the season, at which point they usually taper down to one night a week.

United teams participate in approximately 12 league games over the summer, from May 01 to July 31. Half of these games are home games, at Winnebago County Park, while the other half are away. Most of the away games are held in in the Appleton and Neenah/Menash area, while a few games can take place in Green Bay or other areas.

In addition, teams participate in four tournaments over the summer. These tournaments are chosen by the parents and coaches to insure a mix of quality competition and ease of travel. One of the four tournaments is our own Oshkosh-on-the-Water tournament. Of the three reaming tournaments, teams typically choose two tournaments held in the Fox Valley and one held farther away, such as the Oregon Invitationale held just south of Madison.
